Toby Treu
Grade 5/6
Hi! I’m Toby Treu, one of the five/six teachers here at Chester-Andover. I am beginning my 21st year in this wonderfully supportive community.
I graduated from York College of Pennsylvania, with an Associate’s Degree. I then attended Mills College of Education, in New York City, graduating with a Bachelors of Science degree, and began my Master’s degree at Bank Street College of Education. In 1988, I received my Masters of Education, in Elementary Education, from Antioch, New England College.
This is my 35th year of teaching, and I have taught every grade from Nursery School through 6th grade! As a teacher, I try to match my student’s diverse learning styles with traditional and hands-on activities allowing students to use their creativity and imaginations. That gives each student a way to be successful. I believe in creating in my classroom, a place where students can take risks, learn from each other, and learn respect, while also learning to accept increasing academic responsibilities .
This year Mr. Kelley and I are doing a great deal of collaborative teaching. We have been planning to do many exciting activities for and with our classes jointly.
Reading, Math, and Science are exciting to teach but my favorite subject is Social Studies! Traveling is a passion of mine, and I try to incorporate these journeys into my teaching. I have only 2 continents left to visit!!
My husband and I have two daughters, two cats, and one fish. I love to cook, music, traveling, and anything to do with theater!
