Michelle Robidoux
Grade 1
My name is Michelle Robidoux and I am a first grade teacher. I have taught first grade; multiage 1st and 2nd grades, and I also taught in the resource room as a special educator.
I attended elementary school in Connecticut and in Maine. I graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, Maine. I attended the University of Maine in Orono, Maine and Castleton State College in Vermont. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education with concentrations in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. I also pursued and completed a Master of Arts in Education degree in Reading and Language Arts.
I live in Chester, VT with my husband. We have a grown daughter who is pursuing her education in the performing arts. In addition to teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and my dogs, as well as reading, gardening and cooking.
In first grade we spend a lot of time learning how to read, write, and spell. In math we learn many new mathematical concepts that help children understand how we use numbers in our daily lives.
Most science and social studies skills and concepts are taught through thematically based units of study. We also read, write, have discussions and participate in various types of activities involving these areas of study (as well as others!) In first grade we focus on the following science and social studies themes: “Living and Growing Things”, which includes a study of Self-Concept, Friendship, and the Five Senses; “Animals” , which includes a study of two or more major classes of animals, and the “rules” used to classify them; “Simple Machines and Transportation” , which includes an introduction to force and motion as well as methods of transportation; and “Water” in which we study the water cycle as well as water’s
states of matter.
